Bridal Trial
First of all, Congratulations! How exciting, the countdown is on! The big day is so close you can almost taste it. Now, what do you need to do prior to your trial and wedding day to make sure your vision comes to life? In the coming weeks, here is how to prepare to get the best results possible.
When is the best time for your bridal trial?
I would recommend booking your bridal trial at least 3-4 months prior to your wedding day.
This is where we will sit and chat all things wedding! It’s where I will learn what your skin type is, how it holds makeup during the day, your likes and dislikes when it comes to your makeup. There are so many factors that can influence your desired look on your day: Your dress, the bridesmaid’s dresses, the colour theme, your flowers. Waiting until all these details are finalised can assist in creating a makeup style perfect for you and your day. I want to hear all about your vision for you on your day.
How to prep before the day
The DO’s
There are some pre-wedding regimens you can start that will get both you and your skin ready for the big day.
3-4 weeks prior
Maintain your regular skin care routine. Good skin is the key to good makeup!
Get into the habit of applying lip balm at every waking moment. Only kidding but seriously apply that lip balm. We want first kiss luscious lips!
If you love facials (I know I do!) I would recommend getting a hydrating facial no less than 3 weeks prior to your trial/wedding day. Your skin has a tendency to break out after a facial, so leave enough time for your skin to cycle back to its regular feel ready for your big day.
Jump on instagram or pinterest and look for makeup looks that you love! Be wary of AI images. I’d always recommend finding pictures of people who look similar to you!
I’d suggest finding other artists whose work you like or even my own!
1-2 weeks prior
Book all brow and waxing appointments at least 1 week prior to your trial/wedding day. This ensures that if you happen to have any slight reaction to your treatment, your skin has time to recover.
Drink that water girl!
Hydration is the key to great skin which is the key to great makeup! If you can up your water intake, go ahead!
If you are having a spray tan on the day of the wedding, I suggest getting one for your trial! This ensures your foundation will be the perfect match on the day. It also helps in bringing your vision to life.
The DON’TS
There are some big no-no’s when it comes to the longevity of your makeup.
Avoid using retinols or any new skin treatments. This is not the time to be adding in new products. Stick to your tried and true and you’ll be golden!
I would avoid getting a lash lift before your makeup appointment. Lash lifts are beautiful for every day, but it can make false lash application super hard for an artist. If you’d love a little extra drama for your lashes, I’d suggest a lash tint!
On the day of the trial/ wedding day
Come into the salon with a freshly washed and moisturised face. Avoid using any extra serums or oils before the appointment. These can make the makeup slip and slide around. A light moisturiser and sunscreen are preferable.
Bring your reference photos but stay open minded. Just remember, your face shape, eye colour, skin tone are all uniquely yours! I will tailor the look to you rather than copying the exact look from the picture.
Come dressed in white and with your hair styled similarly to how you will wear it on the day. This will help you fully envision the completed look on the day. You’ll be surprised how much wearing white makes you feel bridal!
Give feedback!
Don’t be shy, this is your day! If there is anything you don’t love, please let me know! I am here to make your day special.
Post appointment
A few hours after your appointment, I will send you a quick message enquiring about how the makeup is holding up for the day. As you’ll be eating, drinking and dancing all night, longevity is the goal for your wedding day. I want to ensure all the right products are used for your skin type!
Makeup is so personal. Don’t be worried if I am not the perfect artist for you. That’s why I offer trial only appointments.
and if I am the artist for you, then yay! We can book in for the big day!
